In today’s economic climate many folks are finding it more and more difficult to keep up with their debts, many of which were incurred when times (read that money) were much better. If you struggle even to pay your minimum payments on your debt or have substantial medical debt (over even old credit card debt) then perhaps filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in Knoxville, Tennessee is the best choice.
I’ve filed bankruptcy cases for people living in Knoxville and Sevierville for over 25 years. Unfortunately, there are several things that usually cause a person to file bankruptcy:
- Loss of job;
- Unexpected Medical event including accidents
- Increase in interest rates on credit cards for a number of reasons
- Martial difficulties
If one of these events have happened to you, then perhaps a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is a good fit for you. In most Chapter 7 cases our clients retain their home and their car. The whole idea behind the process is for you to get a “fresh start” so that you are working for your family and not for your creditors.
The bankruptcy process is complex because it requires you to make decisions about exemptions, about reaffirmation of debts and about whether both spouses file (and that’s only the beginning.
As a result, I never recommend that a person try to handle the case by themselves. Also, I recommend against using “petition preparers” who likely, based upon my observation when I’m in court, give you inaccurate information.
